Groundworks and foundations in progress

04 — Groundworks

Groundworks & Foundations

We carry out foundations, drainage and hard landscaping as part of larger projects and as standalone works. Good groundwork is what everything above it depends on, so we take the time to get it right.

From site clearance and excavation to drainage runs and concrete works, we work to engineers' details and Building Control requirements.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What does groundworks include?
Groundworks covers the below-ground preparation for a building project — excavation, formation of foundations, drainage installation and concrete works. It is the part of the build that everything above depends on, and it needs to be specified correctly and built to the structural engineer's or Building Control's requirements.
How deep do foundations need to be?
Foundation depth depends on ground conditions, the load being carried, and the Building Control specification. Typically, strip foundations for a domestic extension sit between 600mm and 1.5m deep, but the structural engineer or Building Control surveyor will specify the requirement for your particular site and soil type.
Do you carry out groundworks as standalone works or only as part of a larger project?
Both. We carry out groundworks as part of extension and outbuilding projects we lead, and as standalone works for other contractors or self-builders who need the groundwork done to a proper standard before their own trades start.
